NivoRadar in Crude Oil

The Challenge

The wood board manufacturer needed to control a crude oil tank for electricity generation. To keep the oil fluid for transportation it was necessary to maintain a temperature of about 100°C, however the process had a lot of constant steam. Also the tank had an internal ladder that could interfere with the level measurement.

Our Solution

In this case the most suitable solution was the non-contact level transmitter, NivoRadar 3100 with 78Ghz frequency and signal response of ca. 10 seconds. The plastic lens antenna made of PEI and the high precision of 5mm together with Stainless Steel 304 flange and stainless steel housing were important to increase the efficiency of the process. Even though the steam generated a sticky residue, completely covering the lens, and the interference from the tank's internal elements, the solution worked perfectly.
