At the beginning of 2026, UWT took such a step: Bernhard Schönmetzler assumed the role of Head of Technical Department, supporting Andreas Haug, Managing Director, in the areas of operations and technology.
This decision represents more than a new position. It is about trust, experience – and a shared view of the future.
Technology needs people with depth
The role of Head of Technical Department combines strategic responsibility with in-depth technical expertise. It requires the ability to understand complex interrelationships, make well-founded decisions and remain close to technical details at the same time. This balance has long defined the technical culture at UWT.
That this position was filled internally is no coincidence. It reflects our belief that sustainable leadership takes time – and room to grow.
A path grown with UWT
Bernhard has been part of UWT since 2018. In recent years, he served as Manager of Approvals, shaping this department both technically and organizationally. During this time, he not only built deep specialist knowledge, but also assumed responsibility, further developed structures and led and expanded his team safely through complex requirements.
In his new role, he remains closely involved with approvals. At the same time, he is gradually taking on additional leadership responsibilities, working in close coordination with Andreas Haug. For many within the company, this means familiar contacts, clear responsibilities and continuity in daily operations.
Leadership means support
Andreas Haug continues to serve as Managing Director, contributing his extensive experience in full. The role of Head of Technical Department is not a replacement, but a deliberate addition – a partnership that shares knowledge, distributes responsibility and ensures sound decision-making.
Especially in a technical environment, the value of this close collaboration becomes clear.
More than a title
