A matter of heart - Severn Hospice!

UWT supports with a donation!

As part of our UWT cares commitment, our long-standing colleagues at the UWT UK subsidiary in Shrewsbury drew our attention to the Severn Hospice. Severn Hospice provides free specialist care and support to families living with an incurable illness in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Mid Wales.

“We support families through the good days and bad days

because we believe that when cure is no longer possible, care is.

Since 1989, Severn Hospice has provided free care and support to more than 34,000 people and their families in times of dire need. All the care provided to thousands of people each year is only possible thanks to the generous support of communities and donations.

Severn Hospice is a very high-profile charity dedicated to offer patients and their families with specialist medical care, emotional support and chaplaincy service.

.

Behind each family that is helped stands a large, caring team and hundreds of friendly supporters who make that all possible. With our donation of £1,800 (€2,070) we want to
support this great work of Severn Hospice.

"Our vision is a world where people are cared for at the
end of their life as well as they were at its beginning."

The Lions of Lycra!

Joanna Hughes, UWT UK, took part in a 100km bike ride in April to raise money for The Severn Hospice who had taken very good care of a personal friend of hers, Huw Peach, who had been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour early in 2023.

Huw Peach was a hugely respected teacher of German at one of the UK’s leading schools.  He had often helped the UWT UK team in their early days with technical translations and he always showed a keen interest in the business and the whole UWT family in The Allgäu and beyond. The father of three received end of life care with Severn Hospice and this support by the Hospice enabled Huw’s family to care for him at home so that he could die peacefully in his home surroundings.

Joanna and a group of friends formed a cycling team nicknamed The Lions of Lycra, and together they raised over £65,000 by cycling in a race across 100km of very hilly terrain in South Shropshire.

.

Therefore, it was very fitting that UWT GmbH should choose to support The Severn Hospice this year.

Elodie Home, Head of Fundraising at Severn Hospice, says:

“It was so kind of you to nominate Severn Hospice to be recipients of the donation from UWT GmbH.  Thanks to this donation of £1,800 we will be able to continue to provide vital support and care to local patients and their families; it is an incredible gift you have given.  Your donation will be spent making sure that our patients have the best care possible.”
